by Priyadarshini 1 March 2022You’ve most likely purchased NTUC travel insurance plans at some point in your life. It’s no wonder that NTUC Income is one of Singapore’s largest travel insurance companies, given that NTUC is the household name of household names. NTUC Income travel insurance is available in two varieties: regular (standard) and Enhanced PreX. (covers pre-existing medical conditions). Each kind is further subdivided into three plans with varying levels of coverage.

Promotions for NTUC Travel Insurance
Even though many Singaporeans are likely to be willing to pay more for NTUC travel insurance, their standard travel insurance plans are actually rather affordable. In fact, with ongoing specials such as the present 40% off promotion, it can be downright cheap. For example, if you wanted to go temple-hopping in Myanmar for a week, the cheapest Classic plan would cost only $22.80 after a discount.
Unfortunately, NTUC’s promos frequently exclude the Enhanced PreX plans. That’s unfortunate because the Enhanced PreX policies are among the most expensive travel insurance options available.
Who should purchase the NTUC Enhanced PreX travel insurance?
NTUC Income is one of two Singapore insurers that offer comprehensive travel insurance plans that cover pre-existing medical issues like asthma, eczema, diabetes, high blood pressure, and even heart disease. (MSIG TravelEasy Pre-X is the other). The most obvious distinction between a PreX plan and a standard plan is, of course, the price. The most affordable NTUC Enhanced PreX plan costs more than twice as much as a standard basic plan!
You don’t have much of a choice if you have serious health issues. It’s pointless to acquire low-cost standard insurance with no coverage because you won’t be able to claim medical charges, evacuation costs, or travel delays caused by a flare-up of your ailment. It’s especially worthwhile if your ailment is either (a) life-threatening or (b) prohibitively expensive to treat elsewhere.
However, if you have a condition that is only uncomfortable but not life-threatening, such as eczema, you can choose whether to pay extra on PreX for better coverage or to save the money at your own risk. It is critical to consider the coverage limits for pre-existing medical issues, which can still be on the low side. If you’re going to a place where healthcare is extremely expensive, such as Europe or the United States, you should consider upgrading to the Enhanced PreX Prestige plan.
What is the NTUC travel insurance plan’s coverage?
Few of us examine the individual coverage restrictions on our travel insurance, assuming that they cover the fundamental necessities. The good news is that NTUC travel insurance provides comprehensive coverage. If you’re visiting Japan to view the cherry blossoms or Seoul to watch your favourite K-pop group of indistinguishable replicants, the most basic plan (Classic) is more than suitable.
The COVID-19 extension is included in all NTUC travel insurance plans. If you can’t wait any longer for your vacation and have your luggage packed, you can rest assured that you’ll be covered by NTUC’s travel insurance. Furthermore, NTUC Income has partnered with Raffles Medical to offer the COVID-19 (PCR) swab test for $124.2, as well as a variety of additional pre-departure tests. Overall, it’s a complete plan.
There is, however, one area where it falls short. The NTUC does not provide many adventurous activities. Common vacation activities such as scuba diving and skiing are covered, but extreme thrill-seekers should choose a more liberal insurance provider.

NTUC travel insurance isn’t the cheapest on the market, but their normal travel insurance policies are fairly affordable, especially when there’s a deal running.
However, just because it’s a brand name doesn’t imply it has the best coverage in town, especially when compared to newbies like FWD or Etiqa. That isn’t a problem for most travellers, unless they are visiting a really expensive country or experiencing an exceptional situation.
NTUC travel insurance is more than adequate for most Singaporeans who wish to eat, chill and relax on vacation. Especially as it includes COVID-19 coverage. However, it excludes more thrilling activities such as skydiving and the like.
