AIA may be one of Singapore’s largest insurance firms and in this blog, we tell you about AIA travel insurance in Singapore

Price of AIA Covid Travel Insurance

AIA Around The World Plus (II) travel insurance is available in three plan tiers:

Classic \Deluxe \Premier
The planning can be for a single vacation or an annual pastime. What is the distinction between one-time and annual travel insurance? Get the yearly pass if you frequently drive up to Malaysia or fly out to see your girlfriend or partner every few weeks. The cost of your AIA travel insurance is mostly determined by the country to which you are travelling. AIA has classified its premiums as follows:

Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam are the cheapest ASEAN countries.
Asia: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mongolia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, and all ASEAN member countries Any countries other than Singapore.

The AIA Around the World Plus (II) travel insurance plan also provides an allowance for a pet hotel, pregnancy-related medical charges, credit card fraud, and compassionate hospital visits:

Flight diversion ($100/6 hours)
United Airlines flight overbooking ($100/6 hours):
Missed connection: $200 to $500
$1,000 to $5,000 for the closure of a travel agency

Jewellery coverage ranges from $100 to $1,000 if your jewellery is robbed or stolen.
$1,000 in credit card fraud: Get this especially if you’re visiting pickpocket hotspots like Paris, where your wallet will always vanish in an instant.
Kidnapping and hostage-taking: $250 per day, $3,000 to $10,000
$1,000,000 in personal liability
Compassionate hospital visit: $5,000 to $15,000 to bring a relative or friend to you if you are hospitalized alone in another country.
Child protector: $3,000 to $10,000 to arrange for a family or friend to accompany your child back to Singapore if you are hospitalized abroad alone.

Women’s medical expenses abroad: $2,000 to $8,000 if they suffer from pregnancy-related illness and seek medical treatment.
Complementary medical reimbursement: $100 to $500 if you return to Singapore and receive any additional medical care (within 30 days)
Post-trip medical bills in Singapore: $2,000 to $10,000 if you become unwell while travelling and seek medical attention in Singapore within 30 days.
Pet care: $50 for 6 hours, with a maximum of $250 to $500 if your flight to Singapore is delayed and you are late picking up your pet from the pet hotel.

You cannot claim from your AIA travel insurance plan if you received Covid-19, your vacation was disrupted, your airline refunds your tickets in credits and your hotel refunds your bookings in hotel credits. That’s fantastic if you visit, say, Seoul every year. But it’s a disaster if you don’t want the credits. You should send an email to your hotel or airline ahead of time to inquire about their Covid-19 refund policy. Singapore Airlines, for example, accepts returns if you purchased a refundable fare ticket directly from SIA during the refund policy days. You may also be charged a refund fee in some cases.

To be covered by the plan, children over the age of 12 must be legally fully vaccinated.

Claims for AIA Travel Insurance

Before you buy ANY travel insurance, you should think about how easy it is to file a claim. How difficult is the claims process? Do you have any success stories from previous clients? Are they notorious for being shady and stingy with your paperwork and receipts?

A short check on places like Reddit revealed that the AIA travel insurance claims process is heavily influenced by the AIA insurance agent you purchase from. The claims process, according to the AIA claims website, is fairly dated: you must download the AIA claims form, gather all relevant supporting papers, then contact your AIA agent for assistance with submission.

Alternatively, you can send all documentation to AIA directly at [email protected]. The hitch here is that you will have to maintain in touch with AIA to check on the status of your application, understand which claims were not approved, and possibly try to appeal.
