How to Pack Household Goods Safely for your relocation cross-country or overseas?

First, get hold of basic packing materials –
  1. Strong boxes for all kinds of household goods.
  2. Bubble wrap for all your fragile items.
  3. Good long-lasting packaging tape, to ensure the bottom of the boxes are being sealed properly.
  4. Corrugated boxes to secure your belongings
  5. Labels & markers to clearly identify the contents of the boxes.
  6. Lastly, you will need lots of newspapers and paper fillers to fill empty spaces in the boxes.

Alright, now that you have all the packing materials. You can get started on packing your goods. However, keep in mind that different items require different kinds of packaging.

To ensure all your household items are packed and secured properly we have categorized packing tips for each category separately.

Electronics
  • Unplug all electronics carefully.
  • Make sure to unplug your refrigerator 24 hours prior to packing as you need to drain the extra water and ice.
  • Remove the inner plate of the microwave and pack it securely so that it does not break the microwave’s door while moving.
  • Check all manuals of your electronic devices for any special instructions.
  • Ensure you double pack your electronic items with glass screens safely so that there are no damages.

Kitchen Items

  • Bring the bubble wrap and pack your fragile items like crockeries, glass items, bone china, etc.
  • Use double-coated packaging on sharp items and glass containers.
  • Take out your newspapers and place them between all kinds of utensils like bowls, cups, plates, server ware to ensure there are no breakages and chipping.
  • Wrap all your utensils in bubble wrap before putting them away.
  • Make sure to double package décor items, vases, wine glasses in newspaper and bubble wrap.

Small Furniture Products
  • Cover small furniture with bed sheets to prevent scratches on their surfaces.
  • Furniture with edges should be fully covered to avoid damages.
  • If you have antiques, bubble wrap them to ensure they are secured.

Other Items

  • Pack all your books in corrugated boxes.
  • It is a good idea to distribute your books in multiple boxes so that all the weight is not focused on one box.
