In Singapore, using a credit card to pay for gasoline is essentially mandatory for any experienced driver or motorcycle. Petrol credit cards provide such a significant discount that it makes no sense to use them – if you pay for your gasoline with cash or NETS, you’re essentially throwing money away. In this blog, we tell you about the best credit cards for petrol discounts or offers in Singapore.

As gasoline costs continue to rise (ouch), you’ll want to save as much money as possible. We’ve done the legwork and found the best petrol credit cards in Singapore, so you don’t have to wipe your tears with your receipt from the gas station.

Best Credit Cards for Petrol Discounts

While there are other credit cards with gas station affiliations, here are some of the finest credit cards that are the most adaptable and can be used at virtually any petrol station.

Citi Cash Back Card

While some credit cards exclusively provide credit card discounts at specific chains, the Citi Cash Back Card provides a discount at all gas stations.

  • Esso: fuel savings of 20.88 percent
  • Shell: a 20.88 percent reduction in fuel consumption
  • Other gasoline stations: 8% cashback

The Citi Cash Back Card is an excellent choice if you’re searching for a credit card that you can use not only at your normal gas station but also on those rare instances when you run out of gas on the road and desperately need to top up your tank at a random gas station. The card also provides a 6% reward at restaurants and cafés, as well as 8% cashback on groceries. The cashback is limited to $80 per month.

The catch is that you must spend at least $800 per month to be eligible for the cashback. So, unless you’re a Grab or taxi driver that needs a lot of gas, you’ll have to use the card for eating and grocery.

OCBC 365 Card

The OCBC 365 Card, like the Citi Cash Back Card, provides varied savings at all petrol service stations:

  • Caltex saves 22.1 percent on fuel.
  • Esso: a 20.2 percent reduction in fuel consumption
  • Sinopec saves 26.8 percent on fuel.
  • Other gas stations will receive a 5% cashback.

That isn’t everything. The card also offers 6% cashback on dining and online food delivery, 3% cashback on groceries, online grocery delivery, transportation (including taxi and private hire car rides), utilities, and online travel bookings. To qualify for the reward, you must spend at least $800 in a calendar month, and you can receive up to $80 in cashback per month.

Given the wide spectrum of cashback-eligible expenditures, meeting the minimum spending criteria is a little easier with this card than, say, the Citi Cash Back Card. Even if you don’t qualify for the cashback, you’ll get good quick fuel reductions at Caltex, Esso, and Sinopec.

UOB One Card

Because UOB is a partner of Shell and SPC, using a UOB card to pay at these gas stations will result in a fuel discount. In addition to gasoline savings, you can receive cashback through the typical credit card mechanics. In an ideal world, the card would provide you with the following maximum gasoline savings:

  • Shell offers a 21.15 percent discount.
  • SPC: a discount of 24%
  • Other gas stations: up to a 5% cashback.

The UOB One card is marketed as offering cashback ranging from 3.33 percent to 5 percent on all purchases, depending on whatever cashback tier you reach.

DBS Esso Card – Best Credit Cards for Petrol Discounts

This card is intended for Esso customers, as the name implies. While it is not the only card that can be used to earn a discount at Esso, it is by far the most simple. There is no minimum spending restriction or cap, and the card’s main benefit is that it provides Esso fuel savings. There’s no need to be concerned about meeting any minimum spending requirements or wondering where else you should use the card. When you use this card in conjunction with your Esso Smiles loyalty card, you can save up to 21.2 percent on fuel and 2.4 percent on Smiles.
