The September school holidays are quickly approaching! Enroll your children in activities and camps where they may learn new skills, have fun! The last school holiday was all about Covid-19, but now it’s time to get your kids out of the house. And indulge in some (educational) child’s play! If you’re still concerned about infection, consider taking virtual courses instead. Here are some entertaining spots in Singapore for your kids to spend their vacation. Tinkeracademy teaches you how to code

Do you secretly hope your child will become the next Bill Gates? Tinkeracademy is teaching coding and digital skills have begun its Tinker X coding sessions in June. It’s a self-directed coding program. And it allows students to stay out there all day and experiment on their own using the tools and help supplied by the company. Those who require additional instruction can use their course material in not only coding but also data science, game development, and Arduino. The program is meant for children who are familiar with coding. Your child should ideally already have some specific interests, such as app programming or Minecraft modding. They offer free trial sessions to adults and children of all ages.

KiwiCo encourages you to be creative

KiwiCo engages children in STEAM projects. An educational approach to learning integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to foster children’s creativity and critical thinking skills. They have packages or “crates” that you can order and use at home, each containing projects for your children to complete. These range from crates for newborns just out of the womb to crates for teenagers and adults. Choose from Tinker Crate (a hands-on STEM laboratory), Doodle Crate (crafting), Eureka Crate (design and engineering), and many more.

The Brainery Code has some robotics fun

Classes in coding and robotics are available for children aged 5 to 16. They include a Python coding program for children aged 9 and up. As well as two robotics courses using the Lego Mindstorm EV3 robotic set. One for children aged 5 to 8 years and another for children aged 9 and up. Some Brainery Code students have gone on to win prominent robotics contests. During the September vacation, they also host a Techcation Camp. For $280, your youngster will learn the fundamentals of coding over the course of two days.

ToTT is a great place to cook

Do you wish your child would start assisting you in the kitchen? Cooking and baking programmes are available for children aged 5 to 12. Each Junior Chef session focuses on a different set of recipes. Baked rice and pastries, steak, rosti, and cheesecake, attractive desserts, and handcrafted pizza and cupcakes are among the next classes. The charge of $108 per session is for one child and one parent. So you, the parent, may join in on the fun as well. Some classes can also be taken virtually for $48.

At Cristofori, strum on a ukulele

The ukulele is an excellent first instrument for children who are new to music because it is inexpensive, simple, and enjoyable. But don’t be tricked into thinking that your child will simply learn to strum four chords and be done with it. Cristofori’s ukulele classes can also help children prepare for Rockschool Ukulele Exams. There are fundamental ukulele lessons for people who primarily want to strum and sing. Also, there are graded ukulele classes for those who want to commit to mastering the instrument over time. 

Tertiary Courses Using 3D Printing

Tertiary Classes offers courses not just for adults and tertiary students, but also for children. Their emphasis is on technical skills, therefore lessons on 3D modelling with the Sketchup software, Android mobile app development, and Raspberry Pi are available. They also have certain art programmes, such as a clay art workshop. The age requirements vary based on the topic, however, most tech classes are designed for children aged 9 to 15 or 12 to 16.
