Frequency-based travel insurance plan types

Based on the frequency of travel, there are two types of travel insurance plans. They are as follows:

  • Plans for a single trip
  • Plans for multiple trips or annual plans
  • These plans are available to help you save money when purchasing travel insurance. Let’s see how this works out.

Plans for a single trip
A single trip plan covers only one trip for which you depart and return from the same country. These plans typically have a maximum coverage duration of 180 days. However, the length is ultimately determined by your insurer.

Single trip policies are available for individuals, families, and groups. However, all insured travelers under a family or group policy must travel on the same dates.

Plans for the year

Annual travel insurance policies cover multiple trips within a single year. While you may take an unlimited number of trips, each trip cannot last more than 90 days. So, if you’re planning a long staycation in a single location, this plan isn’t ideal. Annual plans are available for both families and individuals. In contrast to single trip plans, insured members are not required to travel together or to the same location.

For frequent travelers, annual travel insurance plans are the best option. You can take multiple trips throughout the year and still receive all of the basic coverage benefits.

Travel insurance classifications based on coverage

Based on the number of people insured under a single policy, there are three types of insurance plans.

  • Individual – Traveling alone
  • Spouse, children, grandparents, in-laws, and/or siblings are examples of family members.
  • Two or more travelers form a group.

On vacation, young adults are more likely to participate in adventure sports. While not all insurance policies include coverage for adventure sports, it can be purchased as an add-on.

Read the fine print to find out exactly what the policy considers to be “adventure sports.” However, here are a few activities that are commonly insured:

  • Trekking and hiking
  • Scuba diving and skiing
  • Ziplining

However, keep in mind that some insurers may only provide benefits for accidents or injuries if you are participating in these activities for recreational/non-competitive purposes with a licensed operator. If you do not follow all safety instructions, guidelines, and regulations, your claims may be invalidated. Check with your insurer to see if there are any exclusions. For example, not all plans include trekking 3,000 meters above sea level.

However, the main policy must include the following:

  • Medical insurance
  • Cancellation or rescheduling of a trip
  • Baggage theft or damage
