Great Eastern travel insurance was previously one of the market’s most popular solutions. Can the Red Lion still play the game now that the field has been disrupted by so many youthful upstarts? Here’s what Great Eastern travel insurance Singapore offers.

At a Glance: Great Eastern Travel Insurance

Great Eastern Travel Insurance was previously sold under two brands: Great Eastern Travel E@sy and Great Eastern TravelSmart. The former has now been removed from the market. The latter is the final one standing, and it features the standard three layers. However, the cheapest version of TravelSmart is only available for cruises in Malaysia, Bintan, Batam, and Singapore.

Promotions for Great Eastern travel insurance

Great Eastern does not divide the adjacent regions into ASEAN and Asia for their insurance policies, thus you pay the same premiums for nations like Indonesia, Thailand, and Hong Kong as you would for more “atas” places like Australia, Korea, and Japan. So, if you’re planning a trip to the ASEAN region, you’ll almost certainly discover a better rate.

Consider purchasing the Travel Smart Basic travel insurance plan if you are travelling to Malaysia, Bintan, Batam, or taking a Singapore cruise. It costs $39 for one week (individual single trip) and $19 for less than five days. I wouldn’t call it inexpensive, but it’s still reasonable given that not every insurer offers Malaysia-only plans. There is no current promotion for Travel Smart travel insurance products at this time.

What is covered by Great Eastern travel insurance?

TravelSmart Basic is the most affordable option, however, it is only available for cruises from Malaysia, Bintan, Batam, and Singapore. The second and third tiers are Travel Smart Classic and Elite. If you intend to participate in outdoor activities and adventure sports, you must upgrade to TravelSmart Classic or find another insurance provider, as TravelSmart Basic does not provide any coverage.

However, for second-and third-tier plans, the TravelSmart Classic and Elite plans are even less appealing. The limits for travel delays, baggage delays, and loss, in particular, are extremely low. While the plan does provide a COVID-19 extension, the amount claimable is quite low, particularly for the Classic plan. There are probably better value-for-money plans available if you’re ready to spend this much on travel insurance premiums.

Claims for Great Eastern travel insurance

Other assertions: Print the trip claim form and mail it to Great Eastern General Insurance Limited, 1 Pickering Street, #01-01 Great Eastern Centre, Singapore 048659, together with supporting documentation (Attention: General Insurance Claims Department). The form specifies the documents that are necessary (depending on what your claims are for). More information about the procedure can be found on Great Eastern’s travel insurance claim page.

Should you purchase Great Eastern travel insurance?

If you’re simply passing through on a long weekend, Great Eastern’s low-cost Basic TravelSmart plan for Malaysia, Batam, and Bintan is a good option. Basically, Great Eastern’s travel insurance plans are good for a short trip nearby Singapore.
