Recently, Singapore and Hong Kong opened up a “travel bubble” encouraging people to travel across the two countries without being quarantined. When can you Travel?
The travel bubble from Singapore to Hong Kong started on 22nd November 2020 and both the country’s governments are monitoring this closely. Singapore and Hong Kong, both have active COVID-19 cases, so in case the number of active cases begins to rise, the travel bubble will be suspended.
Who Can Travel?
You can travel using this travel bubble from Singapore to Hong Kong, if you have lived for 14 days in either of the two countries. This goes irrespective of your nationality. However, the travel bubble has exclusions. For instance, if you are an S pass holder or are in Singapore with a work permit you cannot travel to Hong Kong. Also, if you are working in the processing industry, marine shipyard, and construction you can’t fly through this travel bubble. Tourists can travel and no restrictions are imposed on your touristy itinerary.
Some Pre-Travel Requirements:
- Apply for a COVID test 7 days prior to your departure date.
- Have a confirmed flight ticket to Hong Kong.
- Also, a negative test report for COVID-19 (72 hours before you leave).
Once you are at the Hong Kong airport, you will be required to undertake the COVID-19 test.
Quarantine Rules for “Travel Bubble” Singapore to Hong Kong?
As long as you test negative for COVID-19 you don’t need to quarantine yourself. However, once you land in Hong Kong, you need to pay for the COVID test out of your own pocket. Also, until your test results declare you as negative you cannot leave the Hong Kong Airport. The most important factor here is that no travel insurances cover COVID-19 as of yet. As this is a risk you are taking on your own so you won’t be able to claim medical insurance through your travel insurance policy. Hence, if by chance you get infected with COVID-19, you will be required to bear your own medical expenses.

Well, the answer to this simple. The travel bubble from Singapore to Hong Kong, is not only for tourists or people who want to take a break after a long period of staying indoors. There is a considerable number of Singaporeans living in Hong Kong and vice versa. Some families have not been able to meet each other for a long time. Moreover, the prices of flight tickets are exorbitant. Thus, if you think it is a necessity then go ahead and pay the hefty prices for flights. Vacations can always wait. So, choose wisely!
