For you to be fully functional in the country, you need to have a Dutch/ European bank account, a local phone number, an apartment to stay, a legal document from your company where you are working, etc.

Health Insurance

When you move to the Netherlands, you may find it surprising that health insurances are not free. You need to have mandatory insurance and there are many private insurance companies you can register with. Typically, health insurance will cost you around 100 euros a month per person and you should buy a policy from an insurance agency that has expat-friendly correspondence. This is one of the unique things in Netherlands.

English is Widely Spoken

You will find that most people here speak good English. Even if you find some people who cannot communicate in English, they will understand what you are trying to say. For instance, in Amsterdam, most people are comfortable speaking in English. However, you may choose to learn Dutch of your own will but it is not mandatory.

People Value Time

In the Netherlands, people place time in high regard and if you want to plan meetings/social meet-ups, parties, etc. plan it well in advance. Companies and people here have prime importance for a good work-life balance. Also, this is one of the important reasons why you should move here. Weekends and holidays/vacations are almost a sacred thing and are taken seriously. The Dutch love to discuss vacation plans.

Biking is a Forever Trend

If you are moving to the Netherlands and you don’t bike, it’s a good idea to start learning how to ride a bicycle. There are more bikers in the country than drivers.
