Though not quite practical in these virus-infested times, air miles credit cards are unquestionably the most glamorous of all credit cards. But, more crucially, you earn frequent flyer points as well. When borders reopen, wouldn’t it be lovely to be able to exchange your air points for a free flight? In this blog, we tell you about the best air miles credit cards in Singapore

However, if you simply sign up for the first air miles card you come across and only use it when you remember it exists, you’ll never accumulate enough points to even get to KL. Collecting air miles requires careful planning and the use of the appropriate card.

Best Air Miles Credit Cards in Singapore

Citi PremierMiles Credit Card

If the notion of spending thousands of dollars in only a few months makes you cringe, you need a card with non-expiring miles so you may progressively accrue them. This is especially true if you’re a recent graduate or a normally frugal person with no major bills coming up. On the negative, such cards often have a low earn rate. Citi PremierMiles, which has a highly favourable earn rate for non-expiring miles, gives 4 miles for every $1 spent on food delivery and home entertainment, 2 miles for every $1 spent on foreign currencies, and 1.2 miles for every $1 spent locally. The card comes with a large welcome bonus of 45,000.

DBS Altitude Credit Card

Another card that allows you to accrue air miles that never expire is the DBS Altitude. The card gives you three air miles for every dollar spent on online airline and hotel bookings, two miles for every dollar spent overseas, and 1.2 miles for every dollar spent locally. To sweeten the bargain, the card also comes with a significantly higher earn rate of 10 miles for every $1 spent on Kaligo or Agoda, and 6 miles per $1 spent on Expedia airline and hotel bookings.

This is a card that is best utilized for international travel and spending rather than domestic spending. At the moment, it’s safe to state that none of us are leaving, so if you don’t already have this card, you should get one.

OCBC Credit Card

OCBC 90°N is a good candidate if you’re searching for a non-expiring air miles card to utilize on overseas internet purchasing sites. For every $1 purchased in foreign currency, you receive 2.1 points, and for every $1 spent locally, you earn 1.2 points. The earn rate for foreign currency expenditure is the highest of any of the entry-level non-expiring air miles cards mentioned above. You also earn 7 points for every $1 spent on Agoda bookings made in foreign currency or 6 points for bookings made in local currency. On the flip side, the card doesn’t offer an accelerated earn rate for travel purchases other than Agoda, so you might not want to use it to reserve your plane tickets, instead of having it on hand for emergencies.

Amex KrisFlyer Credit Card

If you’re earning points for Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programme, this card is great. There is no need to redeem your points because all miles earned each month are immediately transferred to your KrisFlyer account. Just keep in mind that KrisFlyer miles have a three-year expiration date. The base pay rate is nothing to write home about. You gain two miles for every dollar spent in foreign currency on eligible purchases and one mile for every dollar spent on eligible local goods.

But, for the time being, they also reward you with 3.1 miles for every $1 spent on Grab in Singapore, valid for up to $200 in expenditures every month. Because travel is now not an option, this is a simple way to earn a reasonable living.

UOB KrisFlyer Credit Card

Most air miles cards allow you to earn more on your travel expenditure, but since everyone is stranded in Singapore at the moment, it’s best to select a card that offers a fair return on ordinary local spending. This is where the UOB KrisFlyer Card comes into play. This fashionable card earns three KrisFlyer miles for every dollar spent on eating, online shopping, online travel, and transportation card transactions. The catch is that you must spend at least $300 per year on Singapore Airlines-related transactions (including KrisShop) to qualify for this earn rate, and they’ll only give you the miles two months after your card membership anniversary, which means you’ll have to pay the annual fee or get it waived before you can get your hands on the miles.
