With so many of us working from home, having a consistent and fast Wifi signal can make or break your entire day. Singapore has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world, and the Internet services market is fiercely competitive. In this blog, we tell you about the best fiber broadband connection in Singapore

The three telcos (Singtel, StarHub, and M1) dominated the early Internet days, but the industry has seen a number of virtual operators carve out a footing in the market, offering similar services at comparable pricing. Virtual operators do not own the fiber optic network infrastructure. Instead, they buy network access in bulk from companies like Singtel and sell it to consumers at a lesser cost.

While this benefits consumers (actual competition helps keep prices in check), it can also result in a flood of plans with varying rates and marketing messages. When looking for the finest Internet home fiber broadband package, it can be difficult to sort through all of these options.

Best Fiber Broadband Connection in Singapore

MyRepublic – starts from S$32.99

MyRepublic’s plans are designed to be flexible, so you can sign up for a 24-month, 12-month, or even no-lock-in time. Of course, the cost savings from a 24-month plan are much more than the cost savings from a no-contract alternative (S$59.99/month). Similar to Singtel, you can select between a router and a WiFi mesh, with the latter being preferable if you want to boost your wireless connection at home.

Best for: Those looking for a decent balance of affordability and connectivity possibilities.

M1 – starts from S$29.90

Prior to the arrival of virtual operators, M1 was the underdog among the big three telcos. Today’s competition is fierce, therefore you’ll find a slew of freebies tossed in when you join up for a 24-month internet subscription plan (1Gbps and above only) with M1. Aside from a free next-generation Wifi 6 router, you also get a free 24-month subscription to 4G mobile broadband. This is useful if your tablet requires a second mobile connection.

Best for individuals looking for a free supplementary mobile broadband connection.

Singtel – starts from S$45.90

While Singtel’s monthly subscriptions are on the higher end, it does provide the most options and the fastest speed at 10Gbps. Unfortunately, the available plans are connected to a 24-month contract, so you’re out of luck if you want to change providers within a year. However, the plans include many alternatives, and you can even acquire a router and/or a WiFi mesh to link your home (varies for different plans). Furthermore, all Singtel plans include a home line, and regardless of the plan, you will receive a free router installation.

If you are a new customer, you will also receive a S$56.71 service activation charge waiver (per port). Best for: individuals who desire more broadband connection alternatives (and speed).

StarHub – prices start at S$29.90 – Best Fiber Broadband Connection

StarHub, like the other providers, has incorporated a few freebies, such as free activation (for the 2Gbps plan only) and installation (for 1Gbps & 2Gbps plans only). New users who sign up for the 1Gbps plan will currently receive free 5-month membership as well as a free Smart WiFi worth S$199. Those who choose the 2Gbps plan will receive a free 43-inch 4K Mi Android TV as well as a free Smart WiFi Pro worth S$399.

Furthermore, StarHub has a partnership with Disney that includes a free one-year Disney+ subscription with its 1Gbps and 2Gbps plans (for 24 months contract only). It’s worth noting that a one-year Disney+ subscription costs S$119.98, so you’re still saving money in the long term.

Best for: those looking for a fully integrated entertainment ecosystem that includes StarHub cable TV and Disney+.

ViewQwest – prices start at S$28.99

ViewQwest defines its plans quite clearly, as the advertised prices are based on the speed of the plans. That means the subscription you see is solely for the service, with no freebies or add-ons to confuse the cost calculation.

While the most widely desired 1Gbps may appear to be extremely reasonable, it does not include the cost of a router. As a result, you’ll have to take in some extra charges when purchasing a router, whether from ViewQwest or from an internet site that may provide it at a lower price. Another item to think about is ViewQwest’s multiple sophisticated features. For example, their Freedom DNS service enables you to legally access streaming content that would otherwise be unavailable in Singapore owing to regional limitations. They are best suited to individuals who wish to personalize their plans with advanced features.
