Travel Insurance Coverage in Singapore

Emergency situations are covered by travel insurance

Most people don’t consider what they’re actually paying for when they buy travel insurance Most travel insurance plans will provide you with the following basic coverage :

Emergency medical expenses while travelling abroad

One of the most important reasons to purchase travel insurance is that it protects you if you require immediate medical attention while on vacation. Singaporeans appear to have a habit of getting into road accidents abroad, which is understandable given that many of us have driver’s licenses that we never get to use due to COE. Then there’s the possibility of getting food poisoning from one too many hotel breakfast buffets or walking into a wall and breaking a tooth.

Medical coverage typically allows you to make claims for incurred medical or dental costs, medical evacuation, and/or expatriation if you need to be rushed back to Singapore, hospital cash benefits, and other benefits. You may also be able to make claims for medical expenses incurred upon your return to Singapore if they were caused by an illness or accident while abroad.

Personal injury and death

Personal accident coverage is included in most travel insurance policies, and it pays out if you are in an accident and become temporarily or permanently disabled, or if you die (in which case the money goes to your family or whoever you’ve left your estate to). Your policy will specify a lump sum that will be paid out if one of the aforementioned disasters occurs, as well as the percentage of that lump sum that you will receive.

Travel Insurance Coverage in Singapore – Travel inconveniences

Unless you’re extremely unlucky, you won’t need our medical or personal accident coverage on every trip. However, if you travel frequently, you will eventually have the opportunity to file a claim for travel-related mishaps and disruptions. You may be able to make claims for cancellations, delays, or missed connections not only for flights but also for train and bus rides. Obviously, your alarm not going off is not a sufficient excuse; you must demonstrate that the disruption was caused by an illness, injury, death in the family, or an event such as a natural disaster or civil disturbance.

Baggage delays may also entitle you to compensation. The amount you receive is usually determined by how many hours your baggage is delayed. You are also entitled to compensation for lost or damaged items. However, be aware that getting your money in such situations can be difficult, as you are generally required to make a police report at your destination, and in many countries, the police may be unwilling to issue reports for something as trivial as a lost iPhone.

Pre-trip emergencies are also covered by travel insurance

Most people have no idea what their travel insurance covers when they buy it, which means they may miss out on making legitimate claims. Travel insurance protects you from the moment you purchase your policy until you return home and collect all of your belongings.

This means that if something happens to prevent you from travelling after you’ve purchased your tickets, you may be able to seek compensation. As you travel from Singapore to your destination, you are obviously covered. However, the protection continues in some ways after you return to Singapore at the end of your vacation. If your luggage is lost on the way back, even if you can easily return home where all your clothes and necessities are waiting for you, you can still get compensation for the delay if it is long enough.
