For the longest time, OCBC simply did not offer a good air miles credit card. Sure, there’s the OCBC Voyage Visa Infinite, but that’s only available to those with extremely high incomes ($120,000 to be exact) and is out of reach for the vast majority. For regular people, the closest thing to a miles card was the OCBC Titanium Rewards Card, which is a great credit card for earning rewards points but not exactly a miles card. All of that changed when OCBC introduced the OCBC 90°N Mastercard in Singapore.

OCBC 90°N Mastercard Details

OCBC finally issued an air miles credit card! Following that, they introduced the OCBC 90°N Visa. We can say right away that the OCBC 90°N Mastercard and 90°N Visa miles cards have fairly standard miles earn rates. The OCBC 90°N Mastercard earns you 1.2 miles per dollar spent locally and 2.1 miles per dollar spent abroad. The OCBC 90°N Visa card, on the other hand, earns 1 mile for every $1 spent locally and 2 miles for every $1 spent abroad.

But it’s the travel benefits that make the OCBC 90 90°N Miles cards so appealing. Furthermore, unlike most miles cards, which charge a fee for mile conversion, you do not have to pay to convert your Travel$ to KrisFlyer miles. Even better, the OCBC Travel$ never expires.

OCBC 90°N Mastercard  Benefits

Begin with the OCBC 90°N Visa. It provides higher earnings for everyday purchases such as groceries, online shopping, food delivery, and streaming services. Disney+, Spotify, Netflix, Viu, and Audible subscriptions earn the highest rate of 15 Travel$ per $5 (3 miles per $1). On the other hand, everyday spending can earn you up to 7.5 Travel$ per $5 (1.5 miles per $1).

The card’s base rates aren’t anything to write home about. It’s mediocre at $1 = 2 miles for overseas spending and $1 = 1 mile for domestic spending. The OCBC 90°N Mastercard has a slight advantage over the OCBC 90°N Visa in that it offers $1 = 2.1 miles on overseas purchases and $1 = 1.2 miles on domestic purchases.

Exclusions for OCBC 90°N Miles Cards

The OCBC 90°N Visa and Mastercard, like most credit cards, have a list of exclusions. The following are some major exclusions from earning Travel$:

  • Government offerings
  • Educational institution payments
  • Insurance premiums
  • Medical bills
  • Gas, water, and electric bills
  • Cryptocurrencies
  • Fees for parking
  • Payment of taxes
  • The list of exclusions is fairly standard. With the exception of these, the OCBC 90°N Miles cards are simple to use, and almost everything you buy with them earns you Travel$, which you can later convert to miles.

OCBC 90°N Miles KrisFlyer Miles Redeem

As a mile currency, the OCBC Travel$ is not particularly adaptable. It only supports the KrisFlyer frequent flyer program, so you cannot redeem miles from any other program. This is unfortunate because other frequent flyer programs, such as Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles, allow you to redeem flights for fewer miles. SQ has also been known to devalue KrisFlyer miles occasionally, making earning miles difficult if you don’t have any other options.

However, you’ll be pleased to know that there is no conversion fee for redeeming miles (normally $26.75 with other cards), and miles can be saved in blocks of 1,000. (as opposed to 10,000 typically). Furthermore, if you have both the OCBC 90°N You can combine the Travel$ earned on both cards to earn more miles.

The most enticing promotion of all is the bonus Travel$ that you can earn when you book your accommodations through Agoda. With no spend cap, you get 6 miles for every $1 spent locally and 7 miles for every $1 spent abroad.

If you travel frequently and spend a lot of money on hotel accommodations, this promotion will help you earn miles faster. Do your research and compare prices before booking your accommodation through the affiliate link. You want to make certain that you are getting the best deal possible.
